Facilities & Activities

There is much to do at Carmel, on our property or in the surrounding area. It is your decision to either sit back, relax and enjoy Carmel and its peace, beauty and fellowship, or to take advantage of our supreme location and visit the many interesting places nearby.
In addition to the wonder of nature, Carmel has a magnificent pool, tennis and croquet courts, horse riding and a coffee shop on the property, as well as numerous walks and trails for bike riders and walkers, with access to adjacent private coastal properties and reserves.
Victoria Bay, an excellent swimming and surfing beach, is just five minutes away, and the vast pristine beaches of the Wilderness are just around the corner. This area is a birdwatchers delight!

Each evening Carmel guests are invited to gather briefly to praise God our Father and to hear and share encouragement based on the Word of God. Camel's unique ethos assures that no pressure is ever put on anyone to conform to anything. It is our desire simply to share the restoring love of Christ with all our guests.

Carmel is a children's paradise! A playcentre, lots of open lawns, a children's pool and special fun when holiday teams are on duty.

During School Holidays Carmel's holiday team organise games, events and activities. Each morning starts with an estate tractor ride. The program varies with each holiday and we do not have a team during the last week of the summer holidays.

Equestrian Centre

The Carmel Equestrian Centre , managed by Fred and Paddy Empson offers riding activities at sensible prices and qualified tuition to suit all levels and ages. Pony rides and leisurely outrides for young and old enjoy spectacular views of the area. Jumping and a canter track are also available.

In the Area

Carmel is the ideal home-base from which to explore the many tourist destinations of the Garden Route.
The ostrich farms and Cango Caves of Oudtshoorn, the lagoon and Featherbed Reserve of Knysna and the maritime and shell museums in Mosselbay are all within a 40 km radius of Carmel, perfect for a day-visit! The famous Outeniqua Choo-Choo travels right passed our valley gate - another great way to see the Garden Route!

For the adventurous, besides our own walking and cycling trails, there is top class surfing at Victoria Bay, paragliding at WIlderness, canoeing on the Serpentine and lakes, and abseiling opportuinities.
